I have two pieces of glass (a vase and pitcher) that I believe my aunt purchased in Venice. I believe them to be Murano-made. However, they were purchased in the 1950's sometime, and my aunt has long passed. My aunt taught school on the American military bases around Europe and Italy was her favorite place to travel. This is why I strongly believe these pieces were picked up in Venice. Alas, they have no markings that we can find.

My sister has some exerience in museum cataloguing and has taken several detailed pictures of these items.

I will be traveling to Venice in late March and would love to meet with someone from the museum. I will have the photos with me. I'd just like as much information as I can get about these pieces. Perhaps the curator may have some information about the pieces. As it is, we really have nothing. So, I would appreciate any assistance.

Thank you so much!

Your information was very helpful. I just purchased a cobalt blue parrot with gold flecks in the head feathers and inside the base that it sits on. The lable reads MADE IN ITALY "MURANO" AND VENEZIA ON THE BOTTOM. ALL THE WORDS ARE ON A GOLD OVAL LABEL. Do you think it is a real "MURANO" ?I really learned a lot form your Blog. Thank You

Dear Reader,
No, we don't have a store in Venice. We are a U.S.-based company selling solely online. We import all of our products from Venice, Italy. Each item we sell is an authentic piece of Murano glass produced according to the ancient traditions, and a certificate of authenticity comes with every product.
We offer the widest range of Millefiori pendants that you can possibly find anywhere, including Venice itself. We make professional photos of each Millefiori pendant to ensure that what you see all the detail and that what you see is exactly what you get.

We hope you have an enjoyable trip to our favorite city. While there, you will undoubtedly want to shop for Murano glass. Our advice is please be careful who you buy from and especially cautious if you decide to ship anything back to your home country. Buy only from reputable stores with good customer service, those in central locations that offer art glass and chandeliers along with small jewelry pieces are often more reliable. Make sure to ask for receipts listing the store name, telephone and fax number and the salesperson's name. Ask in details about their shipping methods and times, the carrier they use, and what happens if the items break in transit. Check out their prices and evaluate against ours. You will find that our prices are often below those in Venice (think about the overhead and costs of maintaining a store in Venice where real estate is expensive, floods are frequent and costly, and all deliveries have to be made by water).
And if you do forget to buy a gift for yourself or someone special while in Venice (as it often happens with our clients given so many sights and things to do in Venice and so little time), please come back to our virtual store where you can find authentic Murano glass jewelry and accessories for every taste and at reasonable prices.

Regards,

Dear Mary
Thank you. We don't sell beads - only finished jewelry pieces. We believe that offering original designs created by Murano masters benefits our clients and allows them to enjoy centuries of the artisans' artistic and technical experience. We seek the very best of everything Murano artisans create (a hard job!) and offer that at the best value to our clients worldwide.
